Tree removal in Canberra, done the arborist’s way
Removal is the last option, not the first. As arborists our job is to manage trees, so before we quote a removal we assess whether pruning, cable bracing or remedial works could retain the tree safely. Where removal is genuinely needed, it is planned properly: the right access, the right rigging, and a crew that leaves your property exactly as it was.
Whether it’s a dead gum leaning over the driveway in Watson, a storm-split eucalypt in Queanbeyan or a failing row of pines on a Yass property, where needed, we remove trees of every size across Canberra, the ACT and the surrounding NSW districts.
How we remove trees safely
Very few Canberra trees stand in an open paddock. Most grow beside houses, fences, pools, driveways and garden beds, which is why our removals are planned, not improvised:
- Assessment first. We check the tree’s condition, lean, targets and access, and confirm whether ACT or NSW approval rules apply before anything is cut.
- Sectional dismantling. On tight sites, the tree carefully comes down piece by piece, climbed, rigged, craned and lowered under control rather than felled.
- Modern rigging and lowering gear that protects roofs, fences and gardens beneath the canopy.
- Full clean-up. Branches chipped, timber cut for firewood or removed, and the site raked before we leave. Add stump grinding to finish the job completely.
Do you need approval to remove a tree in Canberra?
Quite possibly. Many established trees in the ACT are protected under the Urban Forest Act 2023, and removing or heavily pruning them without approval can attract significant penalties. NSW properties around Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Yass have their own rules. We’ll tell you up front whether your tree is likely to need approval, and our AQF 5 arborist can prepare the supporting arborist report if it does.
